Clarksdale Baptist Church
"A church in the heart of downtown, with the whole town on our heart"

Missions . . .

The purpose of Clarksdale Baptist WMU (Women's Missionary Union) is to support Missions, be involved in ministry, and witnessing to reach un-churched people everywhere.  This purpose is accomplished by doing missions, learning about missions, developing spiritually toward a missions lifestyle, participating in the work of the Church and denomination.

2004-2006 Theme - Christ Followers

2004 - 06 Watchword  Then Jesus said to all the people: "If any of you want to be my followers, you must forget about yourself.  You must take up your cross each day and follow me."  (Luke 23:9, CEV)

Permanent Watchword - "Laborers together with God."

Mission Friends

Preschool

Mission Friends is designed for preschoolers.  Its main goal is to teach missions attitudes and concepts to all preschoolers.  In Mission Friends, preschoolers participate in learning activities and experiences that help set the beginning stage for a missions lifestyle.  Preschoolers learn by doing.  As they participate in activities that provide repetition, stir curiosity, create a sense of accomplishment, help develop relationships, encourage investigation, and use their senses, that learn to help others, work together, pray, give, and tell others about God's love and His Son, Jesus.  Through example, imitation, modeling, activities, stories, cultural items, prayer, patience, and love, Mission Friends learn missions attitudes and concepts and the foundations of faith.

GA's (Girls in Action)

"I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well" (Psalms 139:14 NIV).  Girls in Action is the church missions organization comprised of girls in grades 1-6 who are uniquely and wonderfully made.  Each girl is a creative work of God.  Through the process of learning about, supporting, and doing missions girls discover God's plan and purpose for their lives.

RA's (Royal Ambassadors)

2 Corinthians 5:17-20 describes the purpose of Royal Ambassadors.  While the RA motto is found in verse 20, the other verses sum up Paul's declaration of why we need to be ambassadors for Christ.  "Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!  All this is from God, who reconciled us to Himself through Christ and gave us the ministry of reconciliation:  that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting men's sins against them.  And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation.  We are therefore Christ's ambassadors, as though God were making His appeal through us.  We implore you on Christ's behalf:  Be reconciled to God."  The RA Motto, "We are Ambassadors for Christ," not only gives the organization its name, but also gives the boys and leaders a lifestyle goal.

WMU (Women's Missionary Union

"Know Him and Make Him Known"   The 1888 preamble of Woman's Missionary Union reads in part, "We, the Women of the churches connected with the Southern Baptist Convention, desirous of stimulating the missionary spirit and the grace of giving, among the women and children of the churches, and aiding in collecting funds for missionary purposes, to be disbursed by the Boards of the Southern Baptist Convention and disclaiming all intention of independent action, organize . . ."

Woman's Missionary Union's purpose remains the same today as WMU continues to promote and support the missions offering in cooperation with the North American Mission Board and the International Mission Board.

Special Emphasis

Annie Armstrong North American Easter Offering

www.anniearmstrong.com

The Annie Armstrong Easter Offering is much more than an offering envelope and an annual missions-giving emphasis.  When people give to the offering, 100 percent of their gift will be transformed into missionary salaries and ministry supplies.  Every dollar given goes to support missionaries in the field.  Those missionaries and supplies will help others hear the message of Christ and respond in faith to His salvation.  Time and again our missionaries relate how the offering is their lifeblood.  They know that behind each penny given, there is a Southern Baptist who believes in what they do and are affirming the need to equip them to share the gospel with those who need a Savior.

Margaret Lackey State Mission Offering

Mississippi Baptist Convention Board

Each year in September Mississippi Baptists focus on the Season of Prayer for Mississippi Baptist State Missions and the Margaret Lackey State Mission Offering.  This offering is used to fund ministries such as Camp Garaywa for girls, Central Hills Camp for boys, Disaster Relief, Literacy, Criminal Justice Ministries, Language-Ethnic Ministries, Christian Women's Job Corps, Church Planting, Pastoral Benevolence, International Collegiate Ministry, Associational Mission Projects, and Volunteer Missionary Assistance.

Lottie Moon

International Missions Offering

International Missions Board

The first offering for foreign missions was instituted in 1888, in response to a pleas from Lottie Moon to Foreign Mission Board corresponding secretary Dr. Henry A. Tupper to send women missionaries to China.  Lottie suggested that a week of prayer and offering at Christmas would unify the women to a common cause and proposed that the newly organized WMU raise $2,000 to send two women to China to provide assistance to her.  Led by Annie Armstrong, the women of WMU brought an offering of $3,315.26 to the January 1889 meeting, enough to send three missionaries to assist Lottie.  An offering for foreign missions has been taken ever since that time.  Since 1889, this offering has had several names and in 1969 the name was changed to the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering.  Woman's Missionary Union continues to promote this offering and set the goals for giving to international missions.
Edwina Robinson WMU Special Offering From 1933 to 1971, Miss Edwina Robinson served as the Executive Secretary for the Mississippi WMU.  In 1972, the WMU Special Day Offering became the Edwina Robinson WMU Special Day Offering in honor of her work and dedication.  This Special Day offering provides scholarships for Southern Baptist Convention seminary students, emergency missionary needs, gifts to missionary kids, and aged minister and widows as well as other various ministries of WMU.
World Hunger Special Offering

World Hunger Day October 10, 2004

www.worldhungerfund.com

Unlike any other charity, only the Southern Baptist World Hunger Fund uses 100% of all donations for hunger ministry in Jesus' name both in the United States and around the world.  Be prayerful as to how God would like to use you in His purpose of reaching out to people in need.
Mississippi Baptist State Children's Village

www.baptistchildrensvillage.com

The Baptist Children's Village is the only child care agency in our state. We have continually cared for Mississippi children since 1897.  The ministry of  The Baptist Children's Village focuses on the total child, working to meet the physical, emotional, social and spiritual needs of that child and his/her family.  Your offering helps support the children and the professional, Christian staff who work diligently to communicate a sense of infinite worth to hurting individuals whom God directs to us.
